20L Rotary Evaporator is heated by water/oil bath under negative pressure condition, while forming a thin film in the inner of evaporating flask by continuous rotation, evaporate highly, then condense and recycle the solvent simultaneously. The apparatus are particularly suitable for the heat-sensitivity material's condensation, crystallization, separation, recovery and so on.
Working principle of rotary evaporator:
Through electronic control, the flask is rotated at a constant speed at a suitable speed to increase the evaporation area. The evaporating flask was kept under negative pressure by a vacuum pump. The evaporation flask is placed in a water bath for constant temperature heating while rotating, and the solution in the bottle is heated, diffused and evaporated in the rotating flask under negative pressure. The rotary evaporator system can be sealed and decompressed to 400-600 mm Hg; the solvent in the distillation flask is heated with a heating bath, and the heating temperature can be close to the boiling point of the solvent; at the same time, it can also be rotated at a speed of 50-160 rpm. Make the solvent form a thin film and increase the evaporation area. In addition, under the action of the high-efficiency cooler, the hot vapor can be quickly liquefied and the evaporation rate can be accelerated.
Structural principle of 20L rotary evaporator:
Structure: The distillation flask is an eggplant-shaped or round-bottomed flask with a standard ground joint. It is connected to the decompression pump through a high-level reflux serpentine condenser, and the other opening of the reflux condenser is connected to the receiving flask with a ground joint. For receiving evaporated organic solvents.
There is a three-way piston between the condenser tube and the decompression pump. When the system is connected to the atmosphere, the distillation flask and the liquid-contacting flask can be removed to transfer the solvent. When the system is connected to the decompression pump, the system should be at a reduced temperature. pressure state.
When in use, depressurize first, and then start the motor to rotate the distillation flask. When the end is over, stop the machine first, and then open the atmosphere to prevent the distillation flask from falling off during rotation. As a heat source for distillation, it is often equipped with a corresponding constant temperature water tank.
How to use the rotary evaporator:
1. Turn on the power, turn on the cooling system - turn on the main switch, the power switch, and wait for the instrument to self-check for 60 seconds. When the cooling light is not flashing, turn on the circulation pump button, the cooling button, and set the cooling temperature.
2. Connect the rotary evaporator, make the water bath pot flush with the liquid level in the bottle, turn off the vent button of the rotary evaporator, turn on the vacuum pump, and let go only when the vacuum degree is greater than 0.04 MP.
3. Turn on the rotary button and adjust the speed. The speed should not be too high at the beginning to prevent bumping. Turn on the temperature button, and set an appropriate temperature according to the boiling point of the solvent to be evaporated; 4. When the liquid drops fall evenly in the distillation bottle, the rotary steaming starts.
5. Hold the flask with your right hand, and slowly open the air valve with your left hand to deflate; when the vacuum degree drops by 0.04MP, turn off the vacuum pump and remove the rotary steamer.
6. Turn off the water bath heating; turn off the condensation cycle; (turn off the refrigeration button, circulation pump button, power button, and rear main switch in turn).
7. Dispose of the condensate waste in time and clean up the instrument area.
8. When you stop using it, turn the rotary knob to a small position, turn off the rotary switch, and unplug the power plug in time.
What are the factors that affect the rotary evaporator:
(1) Vacuum degree of rotary evaporation system
Rotary evaporation evaporator is composed of vacuum pump and its pipeline, evaporating flask and receiving flask, condenser tube and other components. Among them, the key factors affecting the vacuum degree are: vacuum pump power and airtightness of the system. Among them, the equipment includes: vacuum pump, sealing ring and vacuum tube.
The lower the vacuum pump limit, the lower the vacuum value of the system. However, the vacuum value that the system can form is determined by two factors: the equipment pressure resistance of the rotary evaporator and the avoidance of bumping when ensuring distillation efficiency. To set a reasonable vacuum value, the above two factors need to be combined and adjusted by the vacuum controller. At present, the ultimate vacuum of the diaphragm vacuum pump can be as low as 2mbar, and the ultimate vacuum of the circulating water pump is about 50mbar (0.095kpa).
Sealing ring: The key part for sealing between the evaporating tube and the condensing tube. Wear resistance and corrosion resistance are the most important performance requirements. The common materials are PTFE and rubber. Among them, PTFE has better wear resistance and corrosion resistance than rubber.
Vacuum pumps and sealing rings are all consumable parts. During the use of the vacuum pump, its vacuum degree should be tested frequently to ensure the stability of its vacuum degree. As a detachable accessory, the sealing ring can be replaced directly. Vacuum tubes often use silicone tubes instead of rubber because of their slow aging efficiency.
(2)The heating power of rotary steaming
The higher the temperature of the oil bath, the faster the rate of solvent distillation. In the actual distillation process, the distillation efficiency is often not pursued by setting an excessively high reaction temperature. Reasons include: (1) If the distilled substance is a heat-sensitive substance, it is easy to decompose and deteriorate at high temperature; (2) Excessive temperature will easily lead to high-temperature softening of sealing rings and other components, reducing their service life and reducing the airtightness of the system. Usually, the oil bath is heated by a water bath, and the temperature is set below 60 °C. When the temperature is higher than 80 ℃, an oil bath is used for heating.
(3)Motor speed
The faster the motor speed, the larger the infiltration area in the evaporating flask, the larger the heating area, the thicker the thickness of the formed liquid film, the larger the heat transfer temperature difference, and the higher the distillation efficiency. In actual use, the faster the speed, the better. Mainly due to: (1), the faster the rotation speed, the greater the centrifugal force formed, which will easily lead to bottle drop; (2), the viscosity of the material is different, and there is an investigation on the optimal rotation speed.
(4)Cooling system
For the best distillation efficiency, the temperature difference between the cooling system and the heating pot is maintained at 40 °C, so as to quickly condense the formed hot steam and reduce the impact of the steam on the vacuum of the system. The commonly used cooling medium is circulating condensed water. If there is a substance with a particularly low boiling point, an ice-water bath or an ice-ethanol bath using a circulating refrigerator as a carrier is also a common choice.
